Palliative Care in Residential Aged Care, Mandurah
For many families, palliative care is not something they have thought about and it can feel like unfamiliar territory at a moment that is already difficult enough.
At Coolibah Care, our role is to make that time as peaceful and as dignified as possible – for the resident, and for the people who love them.
What palliative care at Coolibah Care looks like
Palliative care is not about giving up. It is about shifting the focus from treatment to comfort – ensuring that the time a person has is spent with dignity, with those they love, in a place that feels like home.
Our team includes members with specialist palliative care training, and we work closely with families throughout this stage of care. Decisions about what matters most – how a resident spends their days, who is with them, what brings them comfort – are made together.
Staying in a familiar place
One of the most important things we can offer is continuity. At Coolibah Care, residents receiving palliative care remain in their own room, wherever possible, for the duration of their stay. The room they have made their own – with their photographs, their belongings, the things that connect them to their life – stays theirs.
We believe that avoiding unnecessary change at this stage is one of the most meaningful things we can do. Familiarity is comforting. Stability matters.
Supporting families through this time
Palliative care affects the whole family, not just the resident. Our team understands that, and we try to make sure families feel supported alongside their loved one.
That means keeping communication open and honest, making space for families to be present as much as they need to be, and ensuring that care decisions reflect what the resident and their family actually want – not just what is clinically routine.
If you have questions about what palliative care at Coolibah Care involves, or if you are trying to understand what to expect, our team is always willing to have that conversation. There is no obligation – just an honest discussion about what your family is facing and how we can help.
